How to trust God through the hard stuff

Hi Friends!

Life is a lot sometimes! Or maybe it feels more like all the time? Being able to carry our heavy loads or support others in carrying theirs is one of the many reasons peace can be hard to come by. There’s always plenty of evidence to support peace being impossible. Always! But that’s exactly why we need to practice relying on our faith in Christ to navigate through it all.

The focus on peace in the last general conference wasn’t by chance, and we have been so grateful to have spent the last few months working to apply the counsel and invitations from that conference to our lives. We have felt a shift! We hope you have felt the difference too!

As we have studied peace, there has been one BIG question that tends to plague our minds and souls more than any other: how do we find peace in the hard times? How do we keep the faith? How do we maintain hope? How do we continue to trust in Christ?

 Evan Schmutz shared:

"Jesus did not speak of the possibility of rain and flood and wind in our lives; He spoke of the certainty that storms will arise. The variable in this parable is not whether storms will come but how we have responded to His loving invitation to both hear and do what He has taught. There is no other way to survive."

Storms in life are promised, but peace is also promised.

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” John 14:18

Here are a few other ideas that might help us find peace in the storms.

Feel Better in 5! Trusting Christ through the hard stuff.

  • Remember that God never leaves.

    • God is constant and consistent. We might have a checklist in our heads of what makes us worthy of His love, but He doesn’t see it that way—even in the hard times.

  • Christ understands what we are going through.

    • The Atonement is often framed as our path for repentance, but it also gave us a Savior who has literally felt our pains. All of them. We aren’t in this alone.

  • We can’t see the whole picture.

    • We might not be able to see out of our current circumstances, but God can! And He will guide us through it to where we need to be.

  • Let Christ in.

    • Sometimes we hide our grief, suffering, and pain for fear that it is too much. But is never too much for Christ. He is not afraid to help us carry it.

  • Receive the miracle.

    • When faced with impossible circumstances, there’s an option for hopelessness and there’s also an option to make space for the miracle of peace that only comes through Christ.

We might not get the outcome we want, and things might not go like we thought they would, but Christ is the constant in all of it.
